Sterile Scalpel Blades #11 — Box of 100
Box of 100 sterile #11 scalpel blades — the pointed-tip blade for agar transfers, sector isolation and tissue puncture. Individually foil-wrapped, gamma-sterilised, single-use. Fits any standard #3 scalpel handle.
Availability: In stock
A box of 100 sterile, individually-wrapped #11 scalpel blades — the precision-tip blade for transfers and sectoring. The sharp triangular point with straight cutting edge is purpose-built for spearing small agar wedges, lifting tissue and clean sector isolation. Pairs perfectly with our reusable stainless steel scalpel handle #3.
The pointed tip you reach for when accuracy matters
What the #11 blade is for
The #11 has a long, narrow, triangular shape ending in a sharp point. You hold it like a pencil and work with a stab-and-lift motion. That makes it the right shape for precision work where you need to puncture, lift or isolate something very small — not for long slicing cuts.
- Agar wedge transfers — spear a small colonised wedge from one plate and lift it cleanly onto fresh agar without dragging through unwanted mycelium.
- Sector isolation — when a plate shows a fast-growing rhizomorphic sector, the #11 point lets you isolate that exact patch and transfer it onto a new plate.
- Detail trimming — cut around small contamination spots, separate two competing colonies on the same plate, or trim narrow strips off the edge of agar.
- Tissue puncture — pierce the surface of a fresh fruit body to extract a small interior tissue plug for cloning.
Why sterile, single-use blades matter
- Gamma-sterilised in foil — each blade comes individually wrapped in a sealed foil pouch. Peel one open inside your flow hood or still-air box and it's ready to go.
- Surgically sharp every time — a worn #11 tip rolls over and tears agar instead of piercing it. A fresh one goes straight in and lifts a clean square.
- Lower contamination risk — one blade per session (or per plate, for high-value transfers) eliminates the need to re-flame a worn edge.
- Cost-effective in volume — 100 blades per box means you never have to ration them on the transfers that matter.
What's in the box
- 100× #11 scalpel blades — surgical carbon/stainless steel, precision-ground triangular tip.
- Individually foil-wrapped — each blade in its own sterile peel-pouch.
- Single-use, gamma-sterilised — intended for one use then disposal in a sharps container.
How to use it cleanly
- Work in your flow hood or still-air box — peel the foil pouch only once you're inside the clean working zone.
- Mount onto a #3 handle — slide the blade onto the slotted tip of the handle until it clicks into place. Use forceps to handle the blade.
- Flame-sterilise if needed — for extra security between picks on the same plate, hold the blade in an alcohol lamp until red-hot, then let it cool 5–10 seconds before touching agar.
- Dispose responsibly — remove the used blade with forceps or a blade remover, never with bare fingers. Drop directly into a sharps container.

Pairs with
Got the box but no handle yet? Or already have a handle and want a second blade shape?
- — autoclavable handle that accepts the entire #10–#15 blade family. Reusable indefinitely.
