Sterile Scalpel Blades #10 — Box of 100
Box of 100 sterile #10 scalpel blades — the curved cutting blade for agar wedges, tissue cloning and precision lab cuts. Individually foil-wrapped, gamma-sterilised, single-use. Fits any standard #3 scalpel handle.
Availability: In stock
A box of 100 sterile, individually-wrapped #10 scalpel blades — the workhorse blade for mycology lab work. The curved cutting edge with rounded belly is ideal for clean precision cuts on agar wedges, fresh tissue samples and cloning incisions. Pairs perfectly with our reusable stainless steel scalpel handle #3.
The cutting blade you reach for every transfer session
What the #10 blade is for
The #10 has a curved cutting edge with a rounded belly. You hold it like a pen and use a drawing, slicing motion along the curve. That makes it the right shape for clean, controlled cuts where you want to glide through tissue rather than stab into it.
- Agar wedges — slice clean, straight-edged squares out of a colonised plate for grain or substrate transfers.
- Tissue cloning — cut a small piece of internal flesh from a fresh fruit body for a clone onto fresh agar.
- Trimming — remove contamination edges, trim away senescent or yellowed mycelium, clean up plates before transfer.
- General lab cuts — any controlled slicing job where the curved belly of the blade is more comfortable than a pointed tip.
Why sterile, single-use blades matter
- Gamma-sterilised in foil — each blade comes individually wrapped in a sealed foil pouch. You peel one open inside your flow hood or still-air box and it's ready to go.
- No re-sharpening, no guessing — surgically sharp out of the pouch, every time. A dull blade tears mycelium and damages agar; a fresh one cuts clean and lets the colony recover faster.
- Lower contamination risk — one blade, one job. Swap to a fresh blade between plates or between species rather than re-flaming a worn edge.
- Cost-effective in volume — 100 blades per box means you can afford to be generous with fresh blades on important transfers.
What's in the box
- 100× #10 scalpel blades — surgical carbon/stainless steel, precision-ground curved cutting edge.
- Individually foil-wrapped — each blade in its own sterile peel-pouch.
- Single-use, gamma-sterilised — intended for one use then disposal in a sharps container.
How to use it cleanly
- Work in your flow hood or still-air box — peel the foil pouch only once you're inside the clean working zone.
- Mount onto a #3 handle — slide the blade onto the slotted tip of the handle until it clicks into place. Use forceps, not your fingers, to hold the blade.
- Flame-sterilise if needed — for extra security between cuts on the same plate, hold the blade in an alcohol lamp until red-hot, then let it cool 5–10 seconds before touching agar.
- Dispose responsibly — remove the used blade with forceps or a blade remover, never with bare fingers. Drop directly into a sharps container.
