About the Jack Frost liquid culture

The Jack Frost liquid culture is a purpose-bred Psilocybe cubensis hybrid developed around 2018–2019 by Dave Wombat of the TAT Syndicate — crossing True Albino Teacher (TAT) with Albino Penis Envy (APE) to produce a fully albino strain with palm-sized caps, pronounced blue bruising and above-average potency confirmed by Oakland Hyphae Psilocybin Cup data.

Cloud920 isolated and classifies this strain within its Hybrid Fusion Series. It is available here as a liquid culture syringe or as part of the Cloud920 cubensis liquid culture range .

The cross behind Jack Frost

Dave Wombat — breeder and founder of the TAT Syndicate — created Jack Frost by crossing True Albino Teacher and Albino Penis Envy, two strains already distinguished within the albino segment of the cubensis community. TAT contributes the ghostly-white, true-albino pigmentation and the Teacher-lineage spore structure (white to light-purple spore prints rather than the standard dark purple-brown). APE contributes the thick, wavy stem morphology and the elevated alkaloid profile associated with the Penis Envy family. The hybrid was selected for combining both parents' albino aesthetics with PE's density and potency — and has been described and documented by both Inoculate the World and DoubleBlind, giving it a higher confidence rating than most community crosses of its era.

Visual signature of Jack Frost

Jack Frost produces entirely white, albino fruits — a pure-white phenotype inherited from both parent strains simultaneously. Caps are conical to convex when young, flattening to plane or reversing to an umbrella shape with maturity, and can reach up to 12 cm or more in diameter — palm-sized specimens have been reported. Stems run 5–15 cm, white and sometimes bumpy, with the thicker profile of PE genetics. The blue bruising upon handling is pronounced. The most distinctive microscopy feature is the spore print: white to very light purple, which contrasts sharply with the dark purple-brown prints of standard cubensis. This makes Jack Frost spores and mycelium immediately identifiable under the microscope.

Growth profile of this hybrid culture

Jack Frost presents a moderate difficulty rating — a step up from easy Heritage strains, primarily because the fruiting temperature window is cool at 13–18 °C (55–65 °F), lower than most cubensis which prefer 21–26 °C. Colonization on agar and grains is described as fast and rhizomorphic; however, the full cycle from inoculation to harvest can extend to 30–60 days, and some reports describe full cycles reaching 5–7 months under certain conditions. Typical flush count is 2–4 good flushes; yield is rated low to medium relative to high-yielding cubensis — the trade-off for the strain's distinctive morphology and potency. Growers who want a fast-colonizing hybrid without the cool-temperature requirement may prefer the Makilla Gorilla liquid culture . Getting the colonization phase right is particularly important for Jack Frost — our colonization supplies cover everything you need.

Jack Frost potency profile

Jack Frost is among the few community hybrids with published Psilocybin Cup data. Oakland Hyphae Cup data via Tripsitter places Jack Frost at approximately ~0.83% average total tryptamines on dry weight, with peaks reaching 1.0% — above the cubensis average of roughly 0.6–0.73%. This positions Jack Frost firmly in the above-average-to-potent tier, consistent with its APE parentage. As with all cubensis data from cup competitions rather than controlled laboratory studies, substrate, harvest timing and drying method remain critical variables.

What you receive in your Cloud920 syringe

You receive one 10cc syringe of Cloud920 Jack Frost mycelium, pre-loaded with a sterile needle. The syringe contains QC-verified mycelium in Cloud920's nutrient broth, produced under lab conditions with viability, sterility and morphology checks on every batch. Jack Frost is available in three formats from Cloud920 — this listing covers the liquid culture syringe.

Microscopy and research use only

This Jack Frost liquid culture is sold for microscopy and mycological research. Cultivation of psilocybin-producing fungi is regulated or prohibited in many jurisdictions — verify your local legislation before use.

Frequently asked questions

What does it mean that Jack Frost is a hybrid cubensis culture?
Jack Frost is the deliberate result of crossing True Albino Teacher and Albino Penis Envy, with offspring selected for pure albino phenotype, large caps and above-average potency. The genetics are stabilized over multiple generations, meaning this Cloud920 isolate expresses the defining TAT × APE traits reliably.

How is a liquid culture different from a spore syringe?
A spore syringe contains spores that must first germinate before mycelium can form. A liquid culture already contains live, expanding mycelium — shortening colonization by roughly two weeks and reducing contamination risk.

How should I store this Cloud920 syringe?
Refrigerate at 2–8 °C, upright, in the original sleeve. Keep away from direct light and freezing temperatures. Use within the shelf life printed on the label.

Why does this product say "for microscopy and mycological research"?
Cultivation of psilocybin-producing fungi is regulated or prohibited in many jurisdictions. This syringe is sold for microscopy and mycological research purposes only — check your local legislation before use.

Is this Cloud920 Jack Frost culture lab-verified?
Yes. Every Cloud920 batch is produced in a lab-controlled environment with QC verification on viability, sterility and morphology before the syringe is filled and sealed.

I used the Jack Frost Liquid Culture together with the All-in-One bags and had a really solid experience overall. Colonization was steady and healthy, with no major issues along the way.

The fruits looked great, and after drying they kept good quality.

Overall, it was a smooth and rewarding grow. If you already have some experience and want something reliable with strong results, this combination is worth it. (Posted on 4/17/2026)
