No strain has shaped the world of mushroom cultivation quite like the Golden Teacher. It first appeared in the 1980s — reportedly found growing wild in Florida — and quickly spread through underground mycology circles. No breeder has ever claimed credit for its creation. It simply arrived, proved itself, and stayed. Today it remains the benchmark against which nearly all other Psilocybe cubensis strains are measured.
The name says it all: golden caps and a reputation for guiding growers and users through calm, reflective experiences. Golden Teacher is the strain most people start with — and the one many keep coming back to.
Appearance
Golden Teacher mushrooms are instantly recognisable. The caps are a warm honey-gold to amber colour, starting convex before gradually flattening out with a gentle central bump as they mature. Some caps develop a subtle wavy edge at full size. The stems are thick, sturdy, and white — occasionally showing a light bluish bruise when handled. Under the cap, dark purple-brown gills produce a generous spore print. Overall, Golden Teacher has a classic, elegant look: medium to large fruit bodies that grow in uniform clusters, making harvest day genuinely satisfying.
Growth characteristics
Golden Teacher is one of the most forgiving strains to cultivate. The mycelium is aggressive — colonising fast and outpacing potential contaminants. It tolerates minor fluctuations in temperature and humidity without stalling, which makes it an ideal choice for first-time growers. Despite that resilience, Golden Teacher also rewards experienced cultivators with reliable, repeatable flushes. Expect medium-to-large mushrooms that fruit in even clusters rather than scattered singles.
What to expect from this kit
This FreshMushrooms® kit is fully colonised and ready to start straight out of the box — no soaking, no watering, no preparation. Place the kit in the grow bag, fold the bag as described in the instructions, and maintain a steady 23 °C. The first pins typically appear within 7 to 10 days, with a full first harvest following at around two weeks.
Most kits produce two flushes. The first delivers the largest yield, with a second flush following after a cold-water soak. Total yield ranges from roughly 200 to 400 g of fresh mushrooms, depending on conditions and care — Golden Teacher is known for generous first flushes.

The delivery was quick after they received the payment. After placing the grow kit, it took about a week to see the first pins, after a few more days I harvested the first flush (before the mushrooms fully matured). Some of the mushrooms were very small - I guess I need to cut open the plastic box and give them more room to grow, more humidity or something (need some more experience :D). I let them dry for 2 days and then used calcium cloride to fully dry them.Rating
Summary: ~11g of completely cracking-dry pre-mature shrooms after the first flush.

I took GT to get off nicotine over 40 years addication. YES, they worked, i also learned about myself and the world we live in. For me i was posed questions in the form of a game show like (catch phrase) i was shown an image and as soon as i worked out the meaning, a new one popped up, if i didnt get it i asked for another one and straight away i was given another. You can ask anything about yourself, your life,your love, anything. they will answer. the more you go back the more of a realionship you will develop with the Shrooms the more they will show you,Rating
i was very dissapointed in the yeild at first they only grew in one corner of the block and i got about 25 grms of dry, second flush only 98grms of wet. first time i took 12grms dry nothing, second time, 10grms dry pretty good, 3rd time 48grms wet, mind blowing, every time i went in it got better and better, THEY knew what i needed and how to deliver it. all you got to do is to trust in them and let them do their magic.

- Overall i would say fresh mushrooms are easier to manage than standard grow kits. However it seems this strain is more delicate than others? I lost my kit to contamination after pins started showing. This kit was growing in the same environment as another fresh mushrooms kit I had started - McKennai and that one went fine, got 4 flushes so far. Im not a newbie in mushrooms cultivation, so I know what I'm doing and I have to say that I'm very disappointed by the size and quantity of the mushrooms.
