Ecuador Liquid Culture Syringe – Cloud920

Ecuador is a wild Psilocybe cubensis landrace from the Andean highlands. It graced the cover of Paul Stamets' first mushroom book and remains a beginner-friendly Wild Origin classic. Cloud920 supplies it as a 10cc liquid culture syringe with a separately sealed sterile needle: fast to moderate colonisation, thick dense stems, prolific flushing, and lab-verified average potency (~0.76% psilocybin, peer-reviewed).

About the Ecuador liquid culture

The Ecuador liquid culture — also sold as Ecuadorian — is a wild landrace of Psilocybe cubensis. It comes from the highland Andean pastures southeast of Quito. Cloud920 places it in the Wild Origin Series. That Series is reserved for cubensis genetics collected in nature, not bred in a lab. Ecuador is a beginner-friendly wild strain with a strong reputation. It appears on the cover of Paul Stamets' book Psilocybe Mushrooms and Their Allies, and was formally documented in Ecuadorian scientific literature in 2021.

Origin and history of the Ecuador strain

Ecuador is a wild landrace collected from high-altitude grasslands above 1000 metres. These are known locally as pastizales de altura. The mushroom grows on cattle dung in the cool, humid highland climate southeast of Quito.

Spores have circulated in the mycology community since the 1970s. The Stamets cover image made Ecuador a reference strain for hobbyist cultivation. The first formal Ecuadorian record entered the scientific literature in 2021, in the Lilloa Journal. That paper described the population as native to the country's altitude grasslands. Because Ecuador is a landrace and not a purpose-bred cultivar, no single discoverer or breeder is on record. The genetics belong to the region.

Cloud920 works with a stabilised Ecuador isolate. We propagate it on agar and step it up through liquid culture in a lab-controlled environment. That way the highland-adapted morphology and reliable colonisation carry over from syringe to syringe.

What makes this Ecuador culture distinctive

Three traits set Ecuador apart from other Wild Origin cubensis landraces. First, the stems are thick and dense, and can push past 20 cm on generous casings. Second, the caps mature from golden-caramel and reddish-cinnamon to a classic golden-brown with an obtuse umbo. Third, the spore load is heavy and dark purple-brown. That heavy spore load made this strain a staple in the spore-trading community for decades.

Bruising is strongly blue-green where damaged. Colonisation is fast to moderate — roughly 2–3 weeks on grain. The strain is known for prolific flushing, with three or more waves under stable fruiting conditions.

Want a beginner-friendly wild landrace in the same Series? Compare with Cloud920's Cambodia or Mexican liquid cultures. Want a more potent Hybrid Fusion cultivar with a similar ease profile? Look at Jack Frost or Sol-Mak.

Ecuador potency profile

Lab-verified data from a peer-reviewed study in J Fungi places Ecuador at roughly 0.76% psilocybin (7.6 ± 4.7 mg/g dry weight). That sits in the average range for cubensis. The high standard deviation confirms significant batch-to-batch variance. That variance is a normal pattern for landrace genetics.

This matches the Shroomery consensus: most measured differences between cubensis strains fall within normal genetic variation. Substrate, harvest timing and drying method drive more of the final potency than the strain label. Community reports describe the effects as clear-headed with visuals and a warm body feel, without the intensity spike associated with Penis Envy descendants.

What you receive in your Cloud920 syringe

You receive one 10cc syringe of Cloud920 Ecuador mycelium. A separately sealed sterile needle is packaged with it. The syringe contains QC-verified mycelium suspended in Cloud920's nutrient broth. Every batch is produced in a lab-controlled environment with viability, sterility and morphology checks.

How to inoculate with this liquid culture

Cloud920 recommends 2-3 cc per small grain bag, 3-4 cc per medium bag and 4-5 cc per large bag. Flame-sterilise the needle before injection. Work in a still-air box or under laminar flow. Wipe the injection port with 70% isopropanol before and after.

Ecuador colonises fast to moderate. Expect visible mycelial growth within 3–7 days at 22–27 °C. Full grain colonisation completes in 14–21 days under stable conditions. Fruit at 21–24 °C and 85–95% relative humidity. The strain rewards a generous casing layer and produces multiple flushes — do not break down the substrate after the first harvest. Store the syringe cool, dark and upright, and use within the shelf life printed on the label.

Frequently asked questions

Is Ecuador a good beginner strain?
Yes. Ecuador is one of the most forgiving Wild Origin cubensis landraces. It tolerates a wide temperature range. It resists contamination well thanks to its aggressive colonisation. It produces multiple flushes with generous yields. That is why it is a common recommendation for first-time cubensis cultivators.

How long does Ecuador take to colonize?
With Cloud920's nutrient broth, visible mycelial growth typically appears within 3–7 days. Full grain colonization completes in roughly 14–21 days under stable conditions at 22–27 °C. Some isolates run faster, some slower — normal variance for a landrace strain.

How should I store this Cloud920 syringe?
Refrigerate at 2–8 °C, upright, in the original sleeve. Keep away from direct light and freezing temperatures. Use within the shelf life printed on the label.

Is this Cloud920 Ecuador culture lab-verified?
Yes. Every Cloud920 batch is produced in a lab-controlled environment. We run QC checks on viability, sterility and morphology before the syringe is filled and sealed.
