How to Make Magic Mushroom Tea & Truffle Tea (Step-by-Step Guide)
Posted under: Art and Psychedelic Lifestyle

Magic mushroom tea and magic truffle tea are the easiest ways to enjoy a psychedelic experience without dealing with the earthy, bitter taste. Brewing a tea also helps your body absorb psilocybin faster. As a result, the effects usually come on quicker and feel smoother on your stomach. In this guide, we walk you through the full recipe step by step — plus a lemon tek variation for a stronger experience.
In this guide: Everything you need to make magic mushroom tea or magic truffle tea at home. We cover ingredients, step-by-step preparation, dosage tips, the lemon tek method, and important safety advice.
Why Make Tea Instead of Eating Them Raw?
Many people dislike the taste and texture of raw magic mushrooms or truffles. In addition, eating them raw can cause nausea because your stomach has to break down the tough chitin in the mushroom cell walls. Tea solves both problems at once.
What You Need
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Magic mushrooms or magic truffles | Your preferred dose (see dosage section below) |
| Water | About 300–400 ml per person (roughly 1.5 cups) |
| Tea bag (optional) | Herbal tea like chamomile, peppermint, or ginger works best |
| Honey (optional) | To sweeten the taste |
| Fresh ginger (optional) | A few slices — helps reduce nausea and adds flavour |
| Lemon juice (optional) | For the lemon tek variation (see below) |
| A fine strainer or cheesecloth | To filter out the solid pieces |
| A sharp knife or grinder | To chop or grind the mushrooms/truffles |
Step-by-Step: How to Make Magic Mushroom Tea
Cut your magic mushrooms or truffles into small pieces with a sharp knife. The smaller the pieces, the better. If you have a coffee grinder, you can grind them into a fine powder for maximum extraction. This step ensures the psilocybin transfers into the water as efficiently as possible.
Bring the water to a boil in a kettle or saucepan. Then turn off the heat and wait 1–2 minutes. This is important: boiling water can degrade psilocybin slightly. Letting the water cool to about 70–80°C protects the active compounds while still being hot enough for proper extraction.
Place your chopped or ground mushrooms into a cup or teapot. Pour the hot water over them. If you want to add a tea bag, fresh ginger slices, or honey, add them now. Stir gently.
Let the mixture sit for at least 10 minutes. Stir occasionally. The water will turn a golden-brown or slightly blue-grey colour — this is normal. It means the psilocybin is dissolving into the tea. Cover the cup with a small plate to keep the heat in.
Pour the tea through a fine strainer or cheesecloth into a clean cup. Press the mushroom/truffle pieces gently to squeeze out any remaining liquid. You can discard the solids — most of the psilocybin is now in the tea.
Add honey, lemon, or extra ginger to taste. Sip slowly. The effects usually begin within 15–30 minutes.
Pro tip: For a stronger extraction, you can repeat the steeping process. After straining the first cup, pour a second batch of hot water over the same mushroom/truffle pieces. Steep for another 10 minutes, strain again, and combine both cups. This ensures you extract as much psilocybin as possible.
Variation: Lemon Tek Magic Truffle Tea
The lemon tek method uses citric acid from fresh lemon juice to convert psilocybin into psilocin before you drink it. Normally, your body does this conversion in the stomach. With lemon tek, the process starts in the cup. As a result, the effects hit faster and feel more intense — but the trip is also shorter.
The smaller, the better — just like the standard recipe.
Place the chopped pieces in a cup. Squeeze enough fresh lemon juice to cover them completely. Stir well.
Allow the lemon juice and truffles to soak together. Stir once or twice during this time. The citric acid begins converting psilocybin into psilocin.
Boil your water, let it cool slightly, then pour it into the cup. Add a tea bag, ginger, or honey if you like. Steep for another 15–20 minutes.
Strain the tea into a clean cup. Press the pieces to extract all the liquid. Your lemon tek tea is ready. Drink it all in one sitting — lemon tek tea loses potency quickly if you store it.
⚠️ Lemon tek warning: Because lemon tek hits faster and stronger, we recommend using a slightly lower dose than you normally would — especially if you are a beginner. Start with about 75% of your usual dose and see how it feels.
Dosage Guide
The right dose depends on your experience level and what kind of trip you want. Here is a general guide for dried magic mushrooms. For a more detailed breakdown, check our full magic mushroom dosage guide.
| Microdose | 0.1 – 0.5 g dried mushrooms |
| Low / beginner dose | 1 – 1.5 g dried mushrooms |
| Moderate dose | 2 – 3 g dried mushrooms |
| Strong dose | 3.5 – 5 g dried mushrooms |
For fresh magic truffles, the dosages are higher because truffles contain more water. A moderate dose of fresh truffles is typically 10–15 grams. Check our magic truffles dosage guide for a full breakdown by strain and experience level.
First time? Always start with a low dose, especially when trying tea for the first time. Because tea absorbs faster, the experience can feel more intense than eating the same amount raw.
Important Tips for the Best Experience
⚠️ Use responsibly: Always follow the instructions and warnings on our Responsible Use Page. If you suffer from a mental health condition, consult a qualified medical professional before using psilocybin. Do not self-prescribe.
