Magic Mushroom Dosage Guide: Cubensis & Copelandia Charts
Posted under: Art and Psychedelic Lifestyle, Learn

The complete magic mushroom dosage guide — covering Psilocybe cubensis, Panaeolus cyanescens (Copelandia), fresh vs. dried, strain potency, body weight, and microdosing.
Getting your magic mushroom dosage right is the single most important factor for a safe, enjoyable experience. Too little and you feel nothing; too much and you may feel overwhelmed.
What are you looking for?
It's all possible! This guide helps you match the dosage to the experience you're after.
🍄 Looking for magic truffle dosage?
Magic truffles (sclerotia) are dosed differently from magic mushrooms. Truffles are sold fresh and their potency varies by species — from mild Mexicana to powerful Hollandia. We have a dedicated guide for that:

Important: These are general guidelines based on dried Psilocybe cubensis of average potency. Individual sensitivity varies. If this is your first time, always start with a lower dose. Never combine psilocybin with alcohol, MAOIs, or SSRIs without medical guidance. Please read our responsible use page.
Fresh vs. dried: the 10:1 rule
Since our grow kits produce fresh mushrooms, understanding the conversion is essential for choosing the correct magic mushroom dosage. Fresh mushrooms are approximately 90% water, so the ratio is straightforward:
10 grams fresh ≈ 1 gram dried
To convert any dried dose to a fresh dose, multiply by 10. For example, a 2g dried dose equals roughly 20g fresh.
All dosage tables below list both fresh and dried weights so you can use whichever applies to your situation.
Tip: Always weigh your mushrooms with a digital scale accurate to 0.1g. Eyeballing is unreliable — a single large mushroom can weigh as much as several small ones combined.
Magic mushroom dosage chart: Psilocybe cubensis
This magic mushroom dosage table applies to standard Psilocybe cubensis strains of average potency (e.g. Golden Teacher, Thai, Mexican). Adjust up or down based on strain potency (see section below).
| Level | Dried | Fresh | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microdose | 0.1 – 0.3g | 1 – 3g | No visual effects. Subtle mood lift, improved focus and creativity. You can go about your normal day. Popular for productivity and well-being. |
| Happy go lucky | 0.3 – 1g | 3 – 10g | Gently float on the clouds. Colours appear slightly brighter, music sounds richer. Light euphoria and heightened senses. Great for a party, Friday night hang-out with friends and creative processes. |
| Beginner's paradise | 1 – 2.5g | 10 – 25g | Body high, deep conversations, laughing mood and good vibes. The classic “museum dose” — enough to feel the full spectrum without losing control. A friendly introduction to psychedelics. |
| Classic psychedelic trip | 2.5 – 5g | 25 – 50g | During a psychedelic trip you will feel, think, and perceive new things. Strong visual and auditory effects, deep introspection, altered sense of time. Recommended only for experienced users in a safe setting with a trip sitter. |
| Flying with the stars | 5g+ | 50g+ | Intense, potentially life-changing experience. Ego dissolution, connecting with the universe, mystical experiences. Only for very experienced psychonauts. A trip sitter is essential. |

First time? We recommend starting at the low end of Beginner's paradise (1 – 1.5g dried / 10 – 15g fresh). This gives you a meaningful experience while remaining manageable. You can always take more next time — you cannot take less.
Magic mushroom dosage chart: Panaeolus cyanescens (Copelandia)
Panaeolus cyanescens mushrooms (also known as Copelandia or Hawaiian mushrooms) are 2 to 5 times more potent than standard Psilocybe cubensis. They contain higher concentrations of both psilocybin and psilocin. Do not use the cubensis dosage table above for these mushrooms.
| Level | Dried | Fresh | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microdose | 0.05 – 0.1g | 0.5 – 1g | Sub-perceptual. Subtle cognitive enhancement without any noticeable psychoactive effect. |
| Low dose | 0.1 – 0.4g | 1 – 4g | Light mood lift, gentle sensory enhancement. Comparable to a low-medium cubensis experience. |
| Medium dose | 0.4 – 1g | 4 – 10g | Clear visuals, deep introspection, strong emotional waves. Equivalent to a high cubensis dose. Not recommended for beginners. |
| High dose | 1 – 2g | 10 – 20g | Intense visual and mental experience. Ego dissolution likely. Experienced users only with a trip sitter present. |
| Heroic dose | 2g+ | 20g+ | Overwhelming psychedelic experience. Extreme caution advised. Only for very experienced psychonauts. |
Do not underestimate Copelandia. A dose of 1g dried Panaeolus cyanescens can feel like 3–5g of dried cubensis. If you are experienced with cubensis but new to Copelandia, start at the Low dose range and work your way up.
Strain potency: not all cubensis are equal
Psilocybe cubensis comes in many strains, and their potency can vary significantly. We group our grow kit strains into five potency categories to help you adjust your magic mushroom dosage accordingly.
| Potency | Strains | Dose adjustment |
|---|---|---|
| Mild | Thai, Mexican, Cambodian, B+ | Standard dose (use cubensis table as-is) |
| Medium | Golden Teacher, Colombian, Ecuadorian | Standard dose to slightly lower (−10%) |
| Strong | McKennaii, Mazatapec, Amazon | Reduce dose by 20–30% |
| Very strong (hybrids) | Jack Frost, Mac Galactic, APE221 | Reduce dose by 30–50%. Treat with caution. |
| Extreme | Panaeolus cyanescens (Copelandia) | Use separate Copelandia table above |
Example: If your target is a 2g dried medium dose using Golden Teacher, but you have McKennaii instead, reduce to approximately 1.4 – 1.6g dried. For a hybrid like Jack Frost, reduce further to 1.0 – 1.4g dried.
Cubensis hybrids: Jack Frost, Mac Galactic & APE221
The strongest Psilocybe cubensis strains in our catalog are hybrids bred for high psilocybin content. Jack Frost is a cross between Albino Penis Envy and True Albino Teacher — two of the most potent cubensis lines. Mac Galactic and APE221 (an Albino Penis Envy variant) are similarly powerful cubensis hybrids. These strains can be 1.5 to 2.5 times stronger than a standard cubensis like Golden Teacher, so dose reduction is essential.
Psilocybe natalensis & Yellow Umbo
Psilocybe natalensis (recently reclassified as Psilocybe ochraceocentrata) is a distinct species originally from South Africa. It is known for being 1.5 to 2 times more potent than standard cubensis, with users often reporting a clearer headspace, smoother come-up, and less body load compared to cubensis at equivalent doses.
Our Yellow Umbo grow kit is a P. ochraceocentrata × cubensis hybrid — combining the higher potency and distinctive character of natalensis genetics with the reliable cultivation traits of cubensis. Because of its natalensis lineage, Yellow Umbo should be treated as a very strong strain: reduce your usual cubensis dose by at least 30–50%.
Hybrid caution: If you are accustomed to standard cubensis strains like Golden Teacher or Thai, do not assume the same dose will work for hybrids or natalensis crosses. Start at 50–70% of your usual cubensis dose and adjust from there.
Body weight considerations
Psilocybin is distributed throughout the body, so body weight does play a role in how intensely you feel a given magic mushroom dosage. As a practical guideline:
| Under 60 kg | Consider reducing the standard dose by 10–20%. Start at the lower end of each range. |
| 60 – 90 kg | The standard dosage tables above apply directly to this range. |
| Over 90 kg | You may need 10–20% more to achieve the same intensity. Increase gradually. |
Note: Body weight is just one factor. Individual sensitivity, metabolism, stomach contents, and mental state all affect your experience. Weight-based adjustments are a starting point, not a guarantee.
Microdosing
Microdosing means taking a sub-perceptual dose — small enough that you feel no psychoactive effects but may notice subtle improvements in mood, creativity, and focus over time.
| Cubensis microdose | 0.1 – 0.3g dried (1 – 3g fresh) |
| Copelandia microdose | 0.05 – 0.1g dried (0.5 – 1g fresh) |
| Truffle microdose | 0.5 – 1g fresh (see truffle guide) |
| Schedule | 1 day on, 2 days off (Fadiman protocol) or 4 days on, 3 days off (Stamets protocol) |
| Duration | Typically followed for 4–8 weeks, then evaluate |

For microdosing, dried mushrooms are preferred over fresh because the weight is easier to measure precisely. Grind them into a fine powder and use a milligram-accurate scale (0.01g) for consistent dosing.
Tip: If you feel any visual distortion or significant mood shift, your dose is too high. Reduce by 0.05g increments until the effects are sub-perceptual. Browse our microdosing products for ready-made options.
Factors that affect your experience
The same magic mushroom dosage can feel very different depending on the circumstances. Understanding these factors helps you prepare for a consistent, safe experience.
Set and setting
Your mindset (“set”) and physical environment (“setting”) are arguably more important than the dose itself. A positive mood and comfortable, familiar space lead to better outcomes. Avoid tripping when stressed, anxious, or in unfamiliar environments.
Stomach contents
Mushrooms on an empty stomach hit faster (20–30 minutes) and harder. On a full stomach, onset may take 60–90 minutes and feel less intense. For predictable results, eat a light meal 2–3 hours before your dose.
Tolerance
Psilocybin tolerance builds rapidly. If you took mushrooms yesterday, you may need up to double the dose to feel the same effect today. Tolerance resets almost completely after 10–14 days. We recommend waiting at least two weeks between full-dose experiences.
Medications and interactions
Do not combine psilocybin with:
SSRIs / SNRIs (antidepressants) — can reduce or unpredictably alter effects
MAOIs — can dangerously intensify and prolong the experience
Lithium — risk of seizures
Tramadol — risk of serotonin syndrome
If you are on any medication, consult a healthcare professional before using psilocybin.
Lemon tek and tea
Soaking ground mushrooms in lemon juice (“lemon tek”) or brewing them as tea accelerates onset and may intensify the peak while shortening the overall duration. If using either method, reduce your dose by 25–30% compared to eating them whole.
