Albino Penis Envy traces back to Terence McKenna's original Penis Envy genetics from the 1970s — itself one of the most potent cubensis strains ever found. The albino mutation was later stabilised by Sporeworks, producing the snow-white, dense fruit bodies that made APE a cult classic. The problem? Classic APE is notoriously slow. Grain colonisation alone takes 3–4 weeks, fruiting can stretch past 6 weeks, and every extra day is another day the substrate is exposed to contamination risk. APE221 was selected specifically to solve this bottleneck — an isolation that retains the full genetic profile and potency of APE while cutting the colonisation timeline down significantly. The mycelium is more aggressive, the pins appear sooner, and the overall time from setup to harvest is closer to what you'd expect from a standard cubensis — not the weeks-long marathon that classic APE demands.

The key difference comes down to speed versus risk. Classic APE takes so long to colonise that every extra week is another week bacteria or mould can take hold — which is why APE has a reputation for being "expert only." APE221 solves this by colonising more aggressively, which means fewer days the substrate sits vulnerable. You get the same snow-white, dense fruit bodies and the same top-tier potency, but without the two-month waiting game that makes classic APE so frustrating.

- 1x Rubber band — place around the substrate block to prevent unwanted side growth.
How the Cloud920 Grow Bag Works
- Open once — fold the bag open in a clean space to allow fresh air in and trigger pinning.
- Place and wait — put the bag in indirect light at 23°C. No soaking, no misting required in the first phase.
- Ventilate daily from day 10 — briefly open the bag, press out stale air, let fresh air in, close again (under 30 seconds). Stop when pins appear; resume daily ventilation between flushes.
- Harvest and repeat — twist and pull mushrooms at the base before caps

This grow kit started pinning within just one week after activation and has shown strong, healthy growth ever since.Rating
My first flush produced approximately 500 g fresh weight, which I have documented with photos. The second flush is currently still in progress. So far, I have harvested three fruits from it, totaling 126 g fresh weight, with several more still developing.
There was roughly 1.5 to 2 weeks between the first and second flush, which seems perfectly reasonable for this variety. Overall, the kit has been very vigorous and healthy, with consistent growth and no issues so far.
I have not yet tested the potency, so I cannot comment on that aspect at this time. For that reason, I am currently giving the product 4 out of 5 stars. If the potency turns out to be as impressive as the growth and yield, and if it is possible to edit my review later, I would gladly upgrade it to 5 stars.

Ordered two of these APE221 kits. Under identical conditions, one produced a respectable 4 flushes of heavy blue staining mushrooms, one of them the size of a potato. The other kit barely managed 3 flushes of misshapen small shrooms with inverted caps and other odd shapes. Both succumbed to a slow-growing yellow mold contamination.Rating
The growing system is a bit hit and miss. The rubber band doesn't prevent pins from growing on the side and underneath the substrate block, which are then a pain to harvest without damaging the mycelium because the bag is too tight.

The kit was very slow to pin and I needed to start FAE as per the kit’s instructions. Only two pins formed however, the fruit from each of the pins were monsters! I have never seen such huge APE221 mature fruit like these. APE221 is very slow and stubborn so hang in there if you don’t see pins or pins starting to fruit early on. My kit took a total of 39 days – set up to harvest.Rating

This was my first time growing the APE strain. As usual great service. Quick delivery, easy to prepare.
