It first appeared in the 1980s — reportedly found growing wild in Florida — and quickly spread through underground mycology circles. No breeder has ever claimed credit for its creation. It simply arrived, proved itself, and stayed. Today it remains the benchmark against which nearly all other Psilocybe cubensis strains are measured.

Appearance

Golden Teacher mushrooms are instantly recognisable. The caps are a warm honey-gold to amber colour, starting convex before gradually flattening out with a gentle central bump as they mature. Some caps develop a subtle wavy edge at full size. The stems are thick, sturdy, and white — occasionally showing a light bluish bruise when handled. Under the cap, dark purple-brown gills produce a generous spore print. Overall, Golden Teacher has a classic, elegant look: medium to large fruit bodies that grow in uniform clusters, making harvest day genuinely satisfying.

Growth characteristics

Golden Teacher is one of the most forgiving strains to cultivate. The mycelium is aggressive — colonising fast and outpacing potential contaminants. It tolerates minor fluctuations in temperature and humidity without stalling, which makes it an ideal choice for first-time growers. Despite that resilience, Golden Teacher also rewards experienced cultivators with reliable, repeatable flushes. Expect medium-to-large mushrooms that fruit in even clusters rather than scattered singles.

What to expect from this kit

From ordering to delivery it was a pleasure to deal with these guys, less than a week and my kit arrived in Ireland so that's incredible speed. I bought two of these kits because the Mondo's were sold out. Since these kits are smaller and more expensive I had good expectations from it.

My experience with these kits are far from that.
In short: I had so far one flush of three mushrooms.

I contacted the shop and explained what was happening and what I did, they sent me new ones. These are still doing nothing. It is like all the kits are lifeless, dried out, supermegaslow, I don't know.
After a coldshock I could see some pins, but they were growing super slow and then they stopped growing when not even being a mushroom. Just stagnated.

There were no indicators of cause. I growed in the past many kits already, from this shop and others, but the one I have now are the worst of all. It was an expensive joke.

The helpservice was as always helpful and friendly, this is the only reason I would consider buying from this shop again.

I am a novice mushroom grower but using FreshMushrooms kit was really easy and pleasant. This was my second order and started growing as predicted in 10 days and now the second flush is starting to grow. Also the effects are great!

P.S.: There were some complaints of box being damaged with a needle and than the hole was filled with hot glue. I am quite sure this is the way they insert mycelium and than seal the container and not damage. (Posted on 11/11/2021)

I love this kit, I've grown with it 3 different times, and I'm always impressed by how reliable it is. Pins a;ways come up, and if conditions are decent it gives massive flushes.

I recently purchased one of these kits to grow in a new place, but this time the delivery took almost 1 month (couriers fault), by the time the kit came it was definitely a bit affected. But I was impressed that pins still came out and I did have a flush, even though it was a small one. I continued to do further flushes and it still worked. That's impressive considering the amount of time the kit was stuck in poor conditions.

Really disappointed with the yield. I've been buying since 2017 and have had much better yields from previous kits, usually 200-300g but the last couple of kits from 'fresh mushrooms' have produced approx 50g even though the growing conditions and methods haven't changed. Hardly worth it for such a small yield so won't be buying these particular kits again!

I ordered this kit. I only buy freshmushrooms brand because its easy to use this growkit.
So my growkit came damaged and fixed. It had 6mm hole on the lid and a hole in substrate it self as well. Like something stabed trught it. Lid was fixed with hotglue and plastic sheet. They did not send me fresh growkit but a refurbrished one.

I wrote support about issue and they thaught I am stupid. Saying it is normal it's the hole where spores go in.
First of all syringe needle with spores are not 6mm diameter.

I sent them more photos and they compleatly ignored me. Did not apologize.. did not offer something as a apology. So thats why I am thinking to write Freshmushrooms company about this. And send them all the photos how they re-sell growkits.

Will wait till friday your answer in mail. Then I am writing to Freshmushrooms that they damage they'r brand name.

Btw how can I even be sure it is golden teacher????

My review will be negative, but that doesn't mean magic-mushroom-shop is not trustworthy.
I honestly don't know why, but i might just have bad luck with kits ordered from magic-mushroom-shop.
In past, I have grown grow kits from other suppliers with very good success. If you follow instructions (being sterille, good environment conditions,..), you really can't go wrong.
But for some reasons, all 3 grow kits i've order from this site, didn't "work". "Didn't work" in this sense means they didn't produce any fruit. like kits would be "dead".

Support is good, but still, no fruits :)
