Amazon — a tropical powerhouse

The Amazon strain traces its roots to the tropical lowlands of South America, where Psilocybe cubensis grows naturally in warm, humid conditions. It is one of the older and more established cubensis lineages — widely grown for its vigorous mycelium and generous flushes. Amazon colonises quickly, fruits eagerly, and rewards growers with some of the tallest, meatiest mushrooms in the cubensis family.

Appearance and growth

Amazon mushrooms stand out for their size. The stems are thick, dense, and often taller than those of comparable strains like B+ or Golden Teacher. Caps range from light caramel to deep golden brown, starting dome-shaped before flattening out at maturity — sometimes with a subtle raised centre. The overall impression is a robust, well-built mushroom that fills the grow box quickly.

What to expect from this kit

This FreshMushrooms® kit is fully colonised and ready to start straight out of the box — no soaking, no watering, no preparation. Place the kit in the grow bag, fold the bag as described in the instructions, and maintain a steady 23 °C. The first pins typically appear within 7 to 10 days, with a full first harvest following at around two weeks.

Most kits produce two flushes. The first delivers the largest yield, with a second flush following after a cold-water soak. Total yield ranges from roughly 150 to 300 g of fresh mushrooms, depending on conditions and care.

Growing tips

Amazon thrives in warm, stable conditions — consistent temperature matters more than anything else. Keep the kit as close to 23 °C as possible; a heat mat with thermostat helps during cooler months.
