The delicious golden-brown waffles filled with caramel come in a beautiful Delft Blue tin. We chose these Dutch treats because the colour and shape resemble mushroom caps. Besides, we practically live on these things — and we want to share them with you.
History of Stroopwafels
The stroopwafel was first made in Gouda during the late 18th century by a baker using leftovers from the bakery, such as breadcrumbs, which were sweetened with syrup. In the 19th century, there were around 100 syrup-waffle bakers in Gouda, which was the only city in the Netherlands where they were made. They have since spread across the country and become one of the most iconic Dutch sweet treats.
The Delft Blue tin
The waffles come in a classic Delft Blue souvenir tin — a perfect Dutch keepsake. Once the waffles are gone, the tin makes a lovely container for tea bags, cookies or small items.
How to enjoy
Place the stroopwafel on top of a hot cup of coffee or tea for a minute. The steam softens the caramel and warms the cookie — that’s the traditional Dutch way.
