Foldable Mushroom Heat Guard — spare for your heat mat setup

Placing a mushroom grow kit directly on a heat mat creates a problem you can't see until the first flush goes wrong. Localised hotspots dry out the substrate, damage mycelium at the base, and produce uneven colonization patterns. The Heat Guard solves that by sitting between the mat and the kit, turning concentrated contact heat into a gentle, even warmth.

This stand-alone unit is the same model that ships in the box with every Mushroom Heat Mat we sell. Order it on its own when you need a spare, a replacement, or an extra unit for a second mat.

What the Heat Guard does

• Creates a 2 cm air gap between the heat mat and the bottom of your grow kit, so warmth spreads through air instead of direct contact.
• Prevents hotspots that dry out the substrate and damage the mycelium at the base of the kit.
• Holds the grow kit stable on a non-slip surface, even when slightly tilted.
• Folds flat so you can store it next to the heat mat between grows.
• Comes fully apart for cleaning — no glued seams, no hidden gaps where contamination can hide.

Why direct heat is a problem

Heat mats run at roughly 24–30 °C, but the contact temperature on the bottom of the substrate can spike well above that. The consequences:

• Mycelium at the base of the kit dies off
• Substrate dries out faster than the top can rehydrate
• Uneven colonization — patchy growth and longer time to first flush
• Increased contamination risk in dried-out spots

The Heat Guard sits between the heat mat and the kit so warmth transfers gently and evenly, while the substrate stays at a stable, mushroom-friendly temperature.

How to use it

1. Place the Mushroom Heat Mat on a flat, dry surface, away from direct sunlight.
2. Unfold the Heat Guard into its cross shape on top of the mat.
3. Set your grow kit (still inside its grow bag) on top of the Heat Guard.
4. Plug in the heat mat. Allow 30 minutes for the system to stabilise.
5. Check substrate-level temperature with a thermometer — aim for 22–25 °C.

Cleaning and reuse

After your flush is finished, take the Heat Guard apart at the hinge points, rinse with warm water, and wipe the four arms down with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Reassemble, fold flat, and store. Ready for the next grow cycle.
