A 1" (25 mm) bi-metal hole saw for drilling clean, round gas-exchange holes through plastic monotubs. Bi-metal teeth bite through polypropylene, polyethylene and HDPE storage bins without melting or cracking the wall. Ships with a quick-change hex shank arbor so it goes straight into any standard cordless drill.

The right size for small monotubs and shoeboxes

What this hole saw is for

A 1" hole is the small-tub size — perfect for shoebox monotubs, modded clear food containers and tubs under 30 L where you want plenty of fresh-air exchange without giant openings that dump humidity. Pair each hole with one of our self-adhesive filter patches so spores get filtered while CO₂ escapes.

  • Matching filter patches — the 38 mm filter patches comfortably overlap a 25 mm hole on all sides: Shoebox Monotub Filters 38 mm — Self-Adhesive 12-Pack .
  • Bi-metal teeth — cut through plastic without melting; also works on thin metal and wood if you re-purpose it later.
  • Hex shank arbor — included. Slots into any standard 1/4" hex chuck or three-jaw drill chuck. No separate arbor to buy.

How to drill clean holes in a monotub

  • Mark first — measure twice. For small tubs, 6 holes around the perimeter (3 per long side) plus 2 on the short sides is a good starting layout, all sitting just above the substrate line.
  • Drill slowly in reverse — with cordless drills, set the rotation to reverse and go slow. This shaves the plastic instead of biting in, which prevents cracks on cold or brittle tubs.
  • Support the wall — press a scrap block of wood behind the wall where you're drilling. Stops the bit from snatching and tearing the inside of the hole.
  • Clean up burrs — run a sharp blade or sandpaper around each fresh hole so the filter patch sits flat and the adhesive seals fully.

Specifications

  • Cutting diameter — 25 mm (1 inch).
  • Material — HSS bi-metal teeth on a carbon-steel body.
  • Shank — quick-change hex shank arbor included with pilot drill.
  • Best for — plastic monotubs (PP, PE, HDPE), thin metal, wood.
  • Pairs with filter — 38 mm self-adhesive patches (cover a 25 mm hole with margin on all sides).

Safety: Wear eye protection when drilling. Plastic chips fly. Use a sturdy work surface; never drill a monotub freehand on your lap. Keep out of reach of children.
