White Rabbit: The Dutch Swab with the Ringed Stem
Looking for a cubensis hybrid that's easy to recognise under the scope? White Rabbit gives you pale, pearly caps, a thick white stem and a ring that turns purple-brown as the spores drop. This Cloud920® swab brings that Dutch hybrid to your bench as clean reference material for microscopy and taxonomy.
Origin & Genetics of White Rabbit
White Rabbit comes from the Netherlands. A group of mycology enthusiasts and students bred it, and the MushMush spore vendor brought it to the public. The name is a nod to Alice in Wonderland. Most sources list the cross as Albino Penis Envy × Moby Dick, but some name Albino A+ × Moby Dick instead, so the exact parentage is still open. One thing is clear: it's leucistic, not a true albino, and the fruits pick up a little pigment as they age.
- Genetic Series: Hybrid Fusion
- Country of origin: the Netherlands
- Developed by: a group of Dutch mycology enthusiasts and students, released via MushMush
- Cross: Albino Penis Envy × Moby Dick (also reported as Albino A+ × Moby Dick)
- Naming: Alice in Wonderland theme
- Pigment type: leucistic, with some colour developing over time
White Rabbit Morphology & Spore Print
The caps run from pale white to a pearly, slightly yellowish white. They start as a dome and flatten out with age, sometimes splitting at the edge. Below sits a thick, dense stem with a white membrane ring that stays in place. As the spores fall, that ring gets dusted purple-brown, which is the easiest feature to spot.
- Cap colour: pale white to pearly yellowish-white
- Cap shape: dome to broad dome, flattening with age, sometimes splitting at the margin
- Stem: thick and dense, yellowish-white to white, with a persistent membranous ring
- Ring: white, dusted purple-brown by the spore drop
- Bruising: bluish-green when handled
- Spore print colour: purplish-brown
