How it compares to 70% IPA

70% isopropyl alcohol is the gold standard in home mycology — it evaporates clean, leaves no residue and disrupts most contaminants on contact. Meliseptol works the same way, with extra contamination-fighting power.

The active ingredients are 50 g n-propanol and 0.075 g didecyldimethylammonium chloride per 100 g. N-propanol is a larger alcohol molecule than isopropanol — it evaporates slightly slower, which means more contact time on the surface before drying. The small dose of quaternary ammonium adds broad-spectrum activity against spores and biofilm that pure alcohol struggles with. Net result: same workflow as 70% IPA, with extra contamination-fighting power, and full EN certification behind the claims.

Where mycologists use it

• Workspace prep — spray the table, tool tray and SAB walls before any inoculation work. Wait 60 seconds. Wipe dry or let evaporate.
