All about the Thai Magic Mushroom Strain

In Thailand Magic Mushrooms are mostly known because they are mixed with fruit smoothies and milkshakes.   They provide you a summer trip you never forget. But there is much more to these cubensis from Thailand, There are Thai Koh Samui, Ban Hua(n) and Thannon magic mushroom sub strains. Lets have a look!

The Thai Psilocybe cubensis species

Psilocybin

The Thai magic mushroom is also known as Psilocybe Samuiensis Thailand.  This magic mushroom is a psilocybe cubensis, a species of psychedelic mushroom whose main active elements are psilocybin and psilocin.  

The psilocybe cubensis species is the most well-known psilocybin mushroom because they have been widely distributed and they are easy to cultivate,.

A bit of history and visual description

The Thai magic mushroom strain has been found in Koh Samui, a beautiful and small island in the south of Thailand. 

Thai Koh Samui

The caps of the Thai psilocybe Cubensis can be round to flat with a light yellow-brown to almost orange-brown color.  

The stem is usually thin and widens at the top.  It is said that this strain was first named and brought to the west by ethno-mycologist John Allen 1991.  

Koh Samui Super strain or KSSS magic mushrooms

The Koh Samui Super Strain is a domesticated Koh samui cubensis strain, the preforms more stable then the original, wild speciment. The KSSS is said to have bigger flushes, is more resistant to contamination and has large fruits, compared to the original Koh Samui

Thai Ban Huan Magic mushroom

The  Ban Huan Thai Psilocybe Cubensis was also brought back by John Allen and –Clyde- by a sponsored trip to thailand. The Ban Huan mushrooms are very popular in Thailand and a normal part of their culture.

The original strain off the Psilocybe Cubensis Ban Huan Thai produced various results and had a rather “wild” grow.

Thannon Thai magic mushroom strain

The Thannon Thai Psilocybe Cubensis is another great strain with a Thai background.  Thannon spores has a fast colonization rate. Thai Thannon mushroom grows tall and on it's slim stems beautiful round caps will appear. This very potent strain will grow you some great flushes of unique Thai mushrooms.

Caps: Size 25-50+ mm. Cinnamon brown to light yellow brown.
Stem: 40-150 + mm, White yellow color. Turns blue when touched.
Spore: Dark purple brown.1.5–17 x 8–11 µm, subellipsoid, basidia 4-spored
Substrate: Brown Rice Flour, PF Tek, Rye grain. Also Dung, Straw and compost

Growing Environment and conditions

The most common environment where the Thai mushroom grows is rice paddies where water buffalo's  work the fields.

We can say that the original Thai mushroom is a dung fungi as they grow feeding on water buffalo dung nutrients.  

Local Thai people, particularly native cattle owners, harvest the fungi when the water buffalo is moved from the rice paddies to the mountainous terrain at the start of the rice production season in late fall and early spring.

Cultivation information 

There are two ways to grow your Thai magic mushrooms.  Keep in mind that you are going to get massive fruits no matter what method you try. 

The first way is the easiest way and the most recommendable.  We are talking about a Thai magic mushroom grow kit

Growing mushrooms with a grow kit is pretty easy and rules out some negative factors.

No need for making substrate, inoculating and selecting spores this is all done. Most times these are the parts of mushroom cultivation that go wrong, get tricky or things gets contaminated.

With a grow kit you get a sterilized and fully colonized substrate that will grow mushrooms in the right conditions. All you need to do is add water and wait for the magic to occur.

Dosage of the Thai

The typical dose for most magic mushrooms, even the Thai Magic Mushroom, is between 1 and 2.5 grams of dried shrooms, you can find the perfect dosage using EROWID's dosage calculator.  There is also the Shroomery dosage calculator which you can check out here. 

Many advanced users will say these quantities are too small, but they are safer for a beginner.   We believe the best is to remain below 1g if you are getting started.
