The beginner’s workhorse that never lets you down
B+ arrived in cultivation circles in the late 1990s, introduced by a grower known only as “Mr. G.” Rumoured at first to be a hybrid of Psilocybe cubensis and P. azurescens, it was eventually established as a pure cubensis cultivar — the hybrid story is a myth that stuck because of how robustly this strain performs. Within a few years of release, B+ had spread across Shroomery forums and became the default first strain for an entire generation of home cultivators across the USA and Europe.
What B+ looks like in the fruiting chamber
B+ produces large, fleshy fruit bodies with caramel-brown caps that fade to a lighter caramel at the edges. Caps are convex when young, broadening and flattening with maturity. Stems are notably long — often 15–20 cm — thick, and white to yellowish. Handling triggers a strong blue bruising reaction. Spore prints are a deep purple-brown.
A balanced reputation across the community
Community reports describe B+ as a well-rounded strain: approachable, warm, and manageable in character. It is not commonly cited among the most intense cubensis varieties, which is precisely why it has remained the top recommendation for newer cultivators. Anecdotal accounts emphasise mood-lifting and mildly visual qualities. As with all cubensis, growing conditions and harvest timing matter more than strain genetics alone.
Why B+ is the most forgiving strain in the catalogue
B+ tolerates temperature swings from 16–29 °C, handles minor humidity lapses, and competes well against contamination pressure that would knock back fussier strains. Colonisation runs fast on grain and cakes alike. Most growers report full colonisation in 10–14 days on grain with first harvest around 30–45 days from inoculation. Expect three to four productive flushes, with some growers pushing five on manure or straw substrates.

It was my first time using this so I did not get such good results. I did nnt know how much to use and I broke some of my jars when I left the rye grain cooking without water . I managed to get enough colonized for 1 1l box out of the syringe. I have not grown the mushrooms yet because it is not ready yet. If you are looking for something interesting to do this is a good option. But if its just mushrooms you are after the B plus mycelium boxes are much better. Some of the mushrooms I got from the B Plus mycelium boxes weigh 15 grams most 10 grams. Very easy to grow. Spray 5 times every 2 days with water and not too bright light. A kind of shaded area is best. 3 weeks later almost the whole surface is covered with huge 10 gram mushrooms. Very fast delivery. This is the best website to buy mushroom stuff from.
