All about the PES Amazonian Magic Mushrooms

The PES Amazonian is a prolific, fast-fruiting Psilocybe cubensis strain famous for huge flushes and a classic, deeply visual trip. It remains one of the most reliable cubensis strains for beginners and experienced cultivators alike.

What is the PES Amazonian?
Also called Amazon or PESA, this Psilocybe cubensis contains psilocybin and psilocin as its main active compounds. It originates from spores collected in the Amazon rainforest and was later stabilised by Pacifica Spora, which is where the abbreviation "PES" comes from.
Among home cultivators the strain is considered one of the easiest cubensis to grow, which is why it keeps its spot on our cubensis strain overview.
History of the PES Amazonian strain
Pacifica Spora, a US spore vendor active in the 1990s, was the first to distribute this Amazon-sourced cubensis. Since then the strain has become a benchmark for authentic, shamanic-style psychedelic experiences. For broader context, see our magic mushrooms historical chronology.
Strain characteristics
Fruits are large and fleshy, often 15 cm tall, with some specimens reaching 30 cm. Caps are dark red-brown when young and fade to a lighter brown with a pronounced central nipple. Stems are thick and white, bruising blue where handled — a clear sign of active psilocybin.

How to grow this Amazon cubensis

The PES Amazonian grow kit

Tip: Keep the kit at around 23 °C with indirect daylight — this is the sweet spot for healthy colonisation and big flushes. Avoid going above 25 °C, because higher temperatures stress the mycelium and invite contamination.
