Mexican — where the story of magic mushrooms began
Mexico is the birthplace of mushroom cultivation as we know it. Indigenous Mazatec communities in the highlands of Oaxaca have used psilocybin mushrooms in spiritual and healing ceremonies for centuries — long before Western science gave them a name. The Mexican cubensis strain carries that heritage. It was among the very first Psilocybe cubensis varieties to be collected from the wild and domesticated for home cultivation, and it remains one of the most trusted beginner strains to this day.
Appearance
Mexican mushrooms have a classic cubensis look: medium-sized fruit bodies with smooth, caramel to light golden-brown caps that start bell-shaped and gradually flatten as they mature. The stems are slender, pale white, and sometimes develop a light bluish tint when handled. Compared to larger-fruiting strains like Amazon or Golden Teacher, the Mexican tends to produce more numerous but slightly smaller mushrooms — often in tidy, uniform clusters that make for a clean harvest.
Growth characteristics
The Mexican strain is exceptionally easy to grow. The mycelium colonises fast, resists contamination well, and adapts to a wide range of temperatures — making it very forgiving of imperfect conditions. Flushes appear reliably and evenly, which is exactly why this strain has been a go-to for beginners and commercial growers alike for decades. If you want a predictable, low-maintenance grow, Mexican delivers.
What to expect from this kit
This FreshMushrooms® kit is fully colonised and ready to start straight out of the box — no soaking, no watering, no preparation. Place the kit in the grow bag, fold the bag as described in the instructions, and maintain a steady 23 °C. The first pins typically appear within 7 to 10 days, with a full first harvest following at around two weeks.
Most kits produce two flushes. The first delivers the largest yield, with a second flush following after a cold-water soak. Total yield ranges from roughly 100 to 300 g of fresh mushrooms, depending on conditions and care.
Growing tips
Mexican is one of the most forgiving strains in the cubensis family — it tolerates a wider temperature range than most. That said, keeping conditions close to 23 °C will still give you the best results. A heat mat with thermostat helps during cooler months. The growkit is slightly different from what i got previous, mushrooms grow with average yield (got 2 flushes , in 3rd now, 19 gram dry), negative points they grow only on the sides ( maybe that´s only mine) and grow big ones, when i harvested them they were too big and close to each other so a piece of the cake came off. Potency is not high, pretty decent for unexperienced users.Rating

If you expect perfect results every time you don't understand mushroom cultivation. For me third time was the charm. I am learning to not need these, but i will use my 3rd grow, 2nd flush for a spore print. Notice 3rd grow, REALISTIC, 5 Star!! It is a learning tool, next order 3 different, then (hopefully) working off spore prints!!Rating

The delivery was fast and easy, as always. Exactly after a week of setting up, the first pins appeared. 1st flush was impressive, around 6g dried. The second flush was less, around 3g dried, but very big mushrooms. Still waiting for flush number 3. Sprayed a bit of water from time to time inside the plastic bag to increase moisture.
