About the Mazatapec strain
The Mazatapec psilocybe cubensis originates from the highlands of Oaxaca, Mexico — the ancestral homeland of the Mazatec people. This strain gained global attention in the 1950s when American banker R. Gordon Wasson visited the region and participated in a sacred mushroom ceremony led by the Mazatec healer María Sabina.
Mazatapec mushrooms grow tall and slender with pale, bell-shaped caps (20–50 mm) that often remain partially closed even at full maturity — a distinctive trait of this strain. Stems are long (60–150 mm) and relatively thin compared to heavier strains like Colombian. The strain colonises and fruits slower than average, but rewards patience with generous, consistent flushes.

Why does my Mazatapec grow slower than other strains?
This is completely normal. Mazatapec is one of the slower colonising cubensis strains — it can take noticeably longer before you see pins appear. Don't confuse slow growth with a problem. Keep the temperature steady at 23 °C and be patient; the flushes will come and they tend to be generous.
What yield can I expect from this 1200 ml kit?
A 1200 ml standard kit typically produces 200–400 g of fresh mushrooms across multiple flushes. The Mazatapec tends to produce many tall, slender mushrooms rather than fewer heavy ones. Looking for a bigger harvest? The Mazatapec is also available as a 2100 ml XL kit.
Why don't the caps open fully?
Mazatapec caps often remain bell-shaped or only partially open — even at full maturity. This is a characteristic trait of the strain, not a sign that your mushrooms need more time. Harvest when the veil beneath the cap starts to tear, regardless of how open the cap looks.
