A Florida wild-collect with a rare leucistic twist
Treasure Coast takes its name from Florida’s Atlantic coastline — the stretch of barrier islands and coastal pastures between Palm Beach and Sebastian Inlet known locally as the Treasure Coast. Like many American cubensis strains, it was wild-collected from cattle pastures in the warm, humid Florida environment. What set it apart from other Florida collections and brought it to wider attention was a consistent phenotypic tendency toward light, almost bleached fruiting — and occasional fully leucistic or near-albino flushes that appear in multi-spore prints.
Pale gold to off-white — among the lightest caps in the catalogue
Treasure Coast produces fruit bodies that are notably pale compared to typical cubensis strains — caps range from a delicate pale gold to off-white, with some specimens approaching true leucistic colouration (reduced pigmentation without full albinism). Stems are white and moderately thick. The contrast between the near-white caps and the strong blue bruising on cut or damaged tissue is visually striking. Spore prints are deep purple-brown despite the pale fruiting bodies, as leucistic phenotypes retain spore pigmentation.
Occasional albino flushes — a collector’s bonus
One of Treasure Coast’s most discussed traits in cultivation communities is its tendency to produce occasional flushes with true albino or near-albino morphology — white-capped specimens with pale stems that are genetically distinct from the leucistic majority. Community reports confirm this is a real and documented phenomenon in multi-spore Treasure Coast grows, though it is unpredictable and not guaranteed. For collectors, the possibility of an albino flush adds an appealing element of surprise to each grow cycle. Anecdotally the strain is described as balanced and mid-range in character.
Fast-colonising and summer-grow friendly
Treasure Coast colonises fast and is rated easy overall — it handles the warm, humid conditions of Florida summers natively, making it a strong choice for growers in warm climates or grow rooms that run warmer in summer. Optimal fruiting is at 23–26 °C with high humidity. Yields are medium to high across three or more productive flushes. The combination of speed, ease, and phenotypic interest makes it a uniquely rewarding strain to run.
