This is necessary if you live in cold places but be careful you do not make it too hot! It had happened to me in the past. The problem is not the heating mat but you being careful, best to also get a thermometer to check the temp. every now and then and do not allow it to go too high (you do not want to dry your substrate or kill the mycel). So these heatmats are the worst thing you can do. Even with enough space between desk/heatmat/growbox, this thing gets too hot, worst case you will put the growbox directly on top, your growkit will be destroyed. OUTDATED information and NOT recommended.Rating

My mushrooms grow big and healthy on the heatingmat. I made long sticks out of clay that I placed between the desk-heatingmat and heatingmat-grow kit to diffuse heat.Rating

So be careful not to overheat your grow box.
