- This is necessary if you live in cold places but be careful you do not make it too hot! It had happened to me in the past. The problem is not the heating mat but you being careful, best to also get a thermometer to check the temp. every now and then and do not allow it to go too high (you do not want to dry your substrate or kill the mycel).
