Product Description

Contains 2 grams of ground Uzara root. In sealed plastic packaging.

Effects of Uzara

The roots of the Uzara plant are known for their medicinal, calming effects. Uzara contains glocusides with narcotic properties. Some people indicate Uzara calms them. Others find that Uzara relaxes their bodies in cases of intestinal problems, menstrual pains or migraines.

Use of Uzara

You can use the ground Uzara root as a snuff. You can also use it to brew tea. Since few people have experimented with these methods outside of local communities in South Africa, little is known about the appropriate dosage. The psychoactive properties of Uzara have not been subject to much scientific research, either. For this reason, little is known about its active agents. We are very curious to hear about your experiences!

The plant Uzara (Xysmalobium Undulatum), also known as bitter root, belongs to the Apocynaceae family. Its scientific name Xysmalobium is a contraction of the Greek words xysma (lint) and lobion (pod) and refers to the plant’s fruits: green pods covered in white hairs. The plant is most commonly found in the eastern parts of southern Africa, particularly in South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana and Swaziland.

In the traditional healing arts of South African peoples like the Zulu and the Xhosa, Uzara is an important medicine that is prescribed for many different ailments. The Zulu, who call the plant ishongwe, use the ground Uzara roots as a snuff for its narcotic effects. Uzara root is used medicinally to treat diarrhea, migraine, hysteria, common cold and menstrual pains. Uzara also serves as a talisman for protection against storms. It is also given to dogs to sharpen their hunting instincts.

Mild, hard to define, and different experiences with effect
I've not yet figured out how to get the positive effects from this herb. Sometimes I got a nice, but mild and subtle, effect; feeling well, balanced and relaxed without being actually sedated. I also got experiences of strength and stamina.
