The Reintroduction of Psychedelic Drugs Into Society.

Many drug policies of governments around the world have tended to put psychedelic drugs into categories containing drugs that are far more harmful and for the possession of which penalties could be far more severe. Harm caused by substances like LSD or MDMA pales in comparison to the likes of cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine.

This is so because in the late 60s, psychedelic drugs became associated with the countercultural movement happening in the US and the UK.

But there is a renaissance going on and this article points out some very interesting developments such as the amazing work being done by the Beckley Foundation.

They develop research into goth drug science and drug policy reform and the majority of their research focuses on the effects of psychoactive substances on the brain  in order to learn more about consciousness and their effect on brain function, understand how best to minimise their potential harms and to discover and explore more about their therapeutic potential.

We hope that research into psychedelics continues to grow and that organizations such as Beckley Foundation continue to strive to a world of new discoveries, and that global prohibition is soon ditched for harm reducing, evidence-based systems.

The best thing to consume at music festivals is not what you think

.

.

Have you heard of Transformative Festivals?  It is a counterculture festival that focuses on a community-building ethic, and a value system that celebrates life, personal growth, social responsibility, healthy living, and creative expression.  Some of these festivals resemble music festivals, but have a bit more packed in them: seminars, classes, drum circles, ceremonies, and whole food!

Today we bring to you Playboy's Journalista website report about the Lighting in a Bottle festival, a four night transformational festival in central California that is known for its amazing music, art performances, and eco-conscious and creative workshops, but also increasingly, it's delicious nourishing food programs.

Want to know more?  This TEDX presentation by Jeet-Kei Leung should give you the basics.

Seeing Opportunity in Psychedelic Drugs - New research into LSD and psilocybin makes a powerful argument against prohibition.

.

.

In a massive study published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology, scientists at the Norwegian University for Science and Technology at Trondheim concluded that there is no link between the use of LSD and psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) and mental-health problems.

These findings make it very clear to all of us that the common perception that drugs like LSD put users in direct danger is wrong, nevertheless, it is the basis and justification of the criminalization of these substances.

We hope that this and other research can bring us a more humane, rational approach to the criminalization of drugs.

Do Psychedelics offer a path to the ''God Within''?

 .

.

When you think of Psychedelics, do you think about it in terms of medicine for the soul or do you see the excesses of the sixties counterculture?

This article on the Religion Dispatches website (by USC University of Southern California) talks about the efforts of Psychologist William A. Richards to have us start viewing these sometimes strange substances as medicine for the soul.

Richards’s believes that it is the potential of psychedelics to open the mind to a so-called religious or mystical dimension of human existence that makes them such effective medicine.

Brazil Offers Ayahuasca To Violent Crime Inmates On Their Path To Redemption

.

.

We have all heard some amazing things about Ayahuasca, how it can help us in our journey to self discovery, recover from PTSD, addictions, depressions and other afflictions.   But there is a new twist on how Ayahuasca is making a difference in people's lives, and that is with people convicted of violent crimes in Brazil.

The ayahuasca program serves a dual purpose. Prison populations in Brazil have doubled since 2000, and conditions are grossly overcrowded, so the retreats are a kind of pilot to try to reduce recidivism rates. For now, it’s just a few inmates participating, and it’s too early to tell whether the treatments will help keep them from reentering the criminal justice system, but it’s at least a starting point.

Timothy Leary had tried the same with psilocybin in was was known as the Concorde Prison Experiment but when the U.S government banned the substance in 1966, the research was stopped
